Friday was when the film “The Other Guys” came out. Will Ferrell, Steve Coogan and Mark Wahlberg all star within the movie. The “Other Guys” reviews so far are pretty good. Ferrell and Wahlberg have done some bad movies recently although “The Other Guys” seems to be a good step for them. Adam McKay, director of “Anchorman,” “Talledega Nights” and “Stepbrothers,” directed this film.
‘The Other Guys’ has old plot, new faces
Within the movie, after shooting Derek Jeter by accident, a cop (Wahlberg) is given work that he is way too good for. Will Ferrell becomes his geek partner who’s a forensic accountant when he now works on white collar crime. They work together to stop the scheming businessman, played by Steve Coogan. It is pretty humorous to watch. The plot has been done already, but what plot hasn’t. The main difference between a movie bombing and a movie doing well is always the actors.
Reviews went really well
There is a 79 percent rating for the movie on Rotten Tomatoes. In contrast, Ferrell’s last two films as an actor, “Land of the Lost” and “The Goods,” both got lower than 30 percent. Wahlberg, on the other hand, has not had a film get more than 32 percent since 2007. The critics are being fairly kind to this one, saying that when it is certainly a dumb comedy/action flick, it is still good fun. MTV Kurt Loder says it is a great summer comedy although it is not very smart.
Perhaps worth the watch
If you really have to see a goofy comedy, this is probably the movie to go for. One surmises that with the grim economic forecasts, oil spills, and anything else we all could probably use a laugh or two.
