Original accounts from sources like Sports by Brooks indicate that former NFL good Shannon Sharpe has stepped down from his co-host position on the CBS sports program “NFL Today”. Michele Bundy, a woman media sources insinuate is Shannon Sharpe’s girlfriend, was given a short-term restraining order in Fulton County Superior County of Atlanta to protect her towards when accounts indicate is “family violence” from Sharpe. Presently, no crime has been filed against Shannon Sharpe. The legal process at work against Sharpe is what has prompted him to leave his TV work behind until the matter is settled.
Bundy says Sharpe perpetrated sexual attack
In Sharpe’s 10th case against him in Fulton County Superior Court records since 1994 (all involving previous partners), Michele Bundy claims the former Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens star threatened her life and forced her to submit to sexual intercourse. CBS has remained silent in regards to Bundy’s claims, and all Sharpe has said on the matter publicly is that he will clear up legal matters before returning to “NFL Today”. Sharpe is presently involved in a child support dispute with a woman named Melinda Wilson. In 2004, Erika Evans – the mother of one of Sharpe’s kids – filed a misdemeanor battery charge towards him, but the court charge was dropped in favor of dispute mediation.
Not a shining example
According to Bleacher Report, it remains to be seen whether the Bundy minefield will leave Shannon Sharpe’s Hall of Fame chances intact. The stats are there, and Sharpe has been within the top 10 players considered in each of his first two years of eligibility. Tony Gonzalez of the Kansas City Chiefs may have amassed stats more gaudy than Shannon Sharpe’s, but that shouldn’t keep him out of the Hall.
No Sharpe morals terms
? Current bylaws specifically state that only a player’s on-field accomplishments should be considered when the question of enshrinement is around the table. Lawrence Taylor made it in 1999, and he certainly hasn’t led a clean life off the field. ”LT” may not have been one of the most savory of characters, however around the field, he was a defensive “demon dog,” to quote one Thunder the Barbarian.
When National Football Hall of Fame election time comes around again on Feb. 5, 2011, Sharpe will once more be a severe candidate for election. Will Shannon Sharpe be a shoo-in for that list, or will the Michele Bundy incident push him toward borderline status?
