‘Project Runway’ Season 6 Episode 2 | Pricey Pregnancy Wear

‘Project Runway’ doesn’t pinch pennies

There have been a couple of episodes of “Project Runway” on previous seasons that challenged the designers to make inexpensive clothing. But, in general, it is apparent that these fashionistas are not designing for people who need installment loans for bad credit — and this is true on “Project Runway” season6 episode 2. In fact, the contestants designed for Rebecca Romijn.

And the series will probably be the most lucrative one ever for Lifetime, now that it has made the move from its previous home, Bravo. Scooping up “Project Runway” was the best business decision Lifetime ever made. That channel hasn’t seen this kind of money since the Amy Fisher story.

A pregnant pause

“Project Runway” season 6 episode 2 was filmed last year, not long before Rebecca Romijn gave birth to twin girls. The very pregnant film and TV star, who also happens to be a supermodel, asked the designers to make her something “chic.”

Off to the design room they went to find pregnancy pillows on their worktables. They whipped together their creations, strapped the pillows onto stick-like models, adorned said ridiculous-looking models with said creations, and down the runway they went.

Winners and almost losers

The top three designs included the bustier-bearing formal gown by Althea, the lingerie-looking baby doll dress by Louise and a sophisticated-looking piece of drapery paired with a rich wool coat by Shirin. The win went to Shirin.

Not so lucky was Ra’mon, whose sleeveless purple dress had racing stripes that had the judges comparing it to a bowling ball bag and rating it the third-worst creation. Poor Mitchell ended up in the bottom two again, and for good cause with his hideously constructed shorts. His overall casual, summery concept saved him, though, so he will be with us for at least another episode.

‘Project Runway’ Season 6 Episode 2 loser

In the end, it was Malvin who went home after creating a “fertility-focused” top that (purposely) made the pregnant belly look like a giant egg and incorporated feathers.

The judges, all of whom have been pregnant (Monique Lhuillier was filling in for Michael Kors) agreed that looking like they were carrying a giant egg was the last thing they would want. So they sent Malvin away, much to the disdain of the models, who really wanted to see Mitchell go. Of course that part wasn’t on “Project Runway” season 6 episode 1. Rather, it was on …

‘Models of the Runway’

The people of “Project Runway” have created a spinoff show designed to try to keep viewers tuned in for an extra half hour after “Project Runway” proper has come to an end. And it’s working, at least on me.

The episode started out with the models watching the runway action on a television screen in the back room and gasping in horror when they found out Mitchell was safe. Mitchell, as you might remember, blamed his bottom-two presence on his model in the last episode, so none of them like him. At all.

Even with all of the model-switching that took place, leaving a very vocally pissed-off Fatma with Mitchell, Malvin’s model Valerie ended up going home.
